Man, I hope this is true.
As much as I don’t like some of the shenanigans Verizon’s pulled in the past (disabling features of the phone that come from the manufacturer and then charging to re-enable them, the whole single OS across all their phones etc) Apple’s got the leverage with the iPhone to keep those issues at bay. I’d consider going back to Verizon if the iPhone was there… all the issues with AT&T’s network have kept me from getting an iPhone even though I’m an AT&T subscriber… AT&T works fine with my current phone (Palm Centro…which I love by the way…).
